What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is an FDA-approved liquid made of Poly-L-Lactic acid. Poly-L-Lactic acid is a synthetic form of lactic acid, which is naturally formed in the body. When injected into the skin Sculptra® encourages collagen production. This collagen production tightens and adds volume to your skin gradually. As your own tissue begins to regrow and increase in volume, the Poly-L-Lactic acid dissipates. Since Sculptra® triggers collagen production, results will not be seen immediately and can take anywhere from four to six months to become apparent. Sculptra® is non-surgical and treatments usually take 20 minutes to an hour. There is no downtime with Sculptra® beyond minor swelling at the injection site. Patients can return to work or home same day.
What Areas Can Be Treated with Sculptra®?
Common treatment areas for Sculptra® include sunken cheeks and temples. Many patients also choose to have Sculptra® injected in the chin and jawline. Sculptra® can also be injected into the chest to treat wrinkles and folds on the dècolletè.
When Will I See Results After Sculptra®?
Results from Sculptra® are not immediate and usually take about four to six months to become apparent. Since Sculptra® stimulates natural collagen production, results depend on how long your body takes to produce and benefit from the increased collagen. Though the results make take longer to appear than traditional dermal fillers and injectables, the results are long-lasting, typically maintaining for up to two years.
