Liposuction in San Diego, CA

If you are not significantly overweight and want to extract fatty deposits from areas such as your neck, upper arms, chest, back, abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, and other areas, liposuction may be a simple and minimally invasive solution for your concerns. Pollack Plastic Surgery, conveniently located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, offers residents of La Jolla, Alpine, and nearby areas in Southern California the option of achieving tight, youthful body contouring through liposuction.

What are the advantages of Liposuction?

Liposuction is less invasive than other plastic surgery procedures with a much shorter recovery period. Liposuction provides permanent results that look natural and define the body contour by extracting stubborn fatty deposits from problem areas, such as “lumps” of fat in the hips, backs, abdomen, or thighs. Liposuction may also be performed in combination with other plastic surgery procedures to optimize the results of surgery by further sculpting and defining the body contour.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in San Diego?

The costs of liposuction vary widely among patients, as the procedure is highly customized for each individual, and such factors as treatment area and other combined procedures may affect the final cost. Most health insurance providers will not cover the costs of liposuction as a cosmetic procedure. To help patients manage costs of treatment, Pollack Plastic Surgery offers CareCredit® financing and accepts cash, personal checks, and credit cards to keep payment options flexible for all patients.

How does Liposuction work?

Liposuction extracts pockets of excess fat from almost any area of the body through a tiny incision and a very fine instrument called a cannula. In most cases, the incisions are camouflaged within the skin’s natural creases. The cannula is introduced, so the tip penetrates the fatty layers of tissue, and it is connected to a suction pump, which the surgeon manipulates with precision to extract fat from the area through a vacuum process.

Will Liposuction help me lose weight?

No. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure designed for healthy adults that maintain a stable weight and a regimen of healthy eating and regular exercise. Ideal candidates for liposuction are adults who want to eliminate localized fatty deposits in problem areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction does not produce dramatic weight loss, as the procedure does not eliminate large volumes of fat from the body. It may produce a drop in clothing size by tightening the body contour and reducing bumps and bulges in problem areas. Liposuction does produce a slimmer and more defined body contour, but the focus is on the loss of inches instead of pounds.

How much fat may be removed during Liposuction?

Liposuction is not designed to eliminate large amounts of fat cells from the body. Surgeons use a specific set of guidelines to determine how much fat to remove from a patient’s body during the procedure, which, for safety reasons, must not exceed 5,000 cc’s in a single session. Our specialist will evaluate your body while in a standing position, and carefully delineate problem areas where fatty deposits are stored, and this will be the basis for determination of how much fat to remove.

Does Liposuction get rid of cellulite?

Liposuction is not designed to eliminate cellulite because cellulite appears as a dimpling of the skin, and liposuction does not directly affect or improve the quality of the skin, although some patients report a slight decrease in cellulite after liposuction.

What can I expect during recovery from Liposuction?

Immediately after the procedure, it is normal to experience some degree of swelling and soreness, which will peak after about a week and then being to subside naturally. At this time, you may return to non-strenuous light activity. After a few weeks, all bruising will disappear, areas of numbness will regain sensation, and you may resume regular exercise and physical activity.

What if I gain weight after Liposuction?

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from specific areas of the body, so excess fat will no longer accumulate in those specific areas, but it is entirely possible that you may gain weight in other areas. It is important to note that liposuction is a body-sculpting procedure that does not produce significant weight loss nor prevents future weight gain in the overall body. Liposuction is most suitable for patients who maintain a proper diet and exercise regimen.

Once you reach your ideal weight, you may still wish to eliminate stubborn bulges and bumps. At Pollack Plastic Surgery, conveniently located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, residents of La Jolla, Alpine, and surrounding communities in California may now enjoy the benefits of liposuction to achieve a smoother body contour.
