Breast Augmentation in San Diego, CA
Breast augmentation is among the world’s most popular cosmetic surgeries, and thousands are performed yearly. At Pollack Plastic Surgery, conveniently located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, breast augmentation surgery is performed with excellent, natural-looking results for residents of La Jolla, Alpine, and nearby communities in California.
Why consider Breast Augmentation?
If you feel self-conscious due to breasts that are too small, a breast augmentation can provide the larger, fuller breasts you desire. This procedure may be performed to alter the shape, texture, and volume of the breasts via the insertion of silicone or saline implants.
How much does Breast Augmentation cost in San Diego?
The cost of breast augmentation varies according to the type of implants used, the extent of the procedure, and any other procedure you may choose to combine with the breast augmentation. In some rare cases, following a medically necessary mastectomy, breast augmentation may be covered by insurance as part of breast reconstruction, although in most cases, this procedure is not covered by insurance. Pollack Plastic Surgery is proud to provide CareCredit® financing as well as flexible payment options to help patients manage the costs of breast augmentation and other procedures.
Who is an ideal candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Most healthy adults may be excellent candidates for breast augmentation. This procedure is ideal for those individuals who wish to:
- Increase volume and breast size
- Restore lost volume after pregnancy
- Reduce sagging after dramatic weight loss or lactation
- Replace lost volume after a mastectomy
- Balance the overall proportions of the body
- Produce a balanced, symmetrical appearance in breasts that appear lopsided or are vastly different in size.
In many cases, patients choose to undergo a breast lift during the same session as breast augmentation, providing a more comprehensive improvement in the appearance of breasts that are sagging.
What happens during Breast Augmentation?
Local anesthesia is typically used to numb both breasts and surrounding tissue prior to the application of general anesthesia to avoid any discomfort during the procedure. If you choose saline implants, which are not pre-filled, a tiny incision is made at the edge of the areola through which the surgeon inserts and fills each implant before closing the incision. If you choose silicone implants, which are pre-filled, a slightly larger incision may be required. Incisions are camouflaged in areas under the arm, around the line of the areola (nipple), or along the fold beneath the breast. After several months, these incisions heal completely and usually become almost invisible.
Breast augmentation surgery typically takes under two hours to perform, and most patients are able to return home after a few hours. Your chest will be securely bound with absorbent dressings and elastic bandages. Once the dressings are removed after a few days, you must wear a compressive bra to help optimize the healing process and help the body adjust to its new contour.
Recovery from Breast Augmentation
You will require assistance following surgery as you recover from the effects of anesthesia. We require you have someone drive you home and provide basic care for several days following the procedure. You may shower a few days after surgery but will require assistance.
After a few days of rest, you may gradually resume normal activities. It is essential that you wear the postsurgical compressive bra at all times to keep the implants in their proper position during the recovery process.
You may experience bruising and swelling of the breasts and surrounding tissue that may last several weeks, but pain medication will be prescribed to reduce any discomfort, and symptoms will subside naturally after a few weeks. A loss or gain in sensitivity of the breasts is normal following breast augmentation surgery.
To help reduce any discomfort and avoid impact to the tender breast tissue, you will be instructed to sleep on your back with supportive pillows on each side to keep you from rolling over.
Gentle sexual activity is permitted one week after surgery, but the breasts will remain extremely tender and sensitive for about four weeks. You must also avoid heavy lifting, high-impact activities and bending, along with strenuous exercise during the first six weeks.
