What You Need to Know Before Your Tummy Tuck
The tummy tuck is one of the most popular procedures around the world for mothers who wish to get their pre-pregnancy bodies back and patients who have undergone a major weight loss and have their results hidden underneath layers of loose skin. That being said, our patients still come in with a ton of questions about this tightening and toning procedure. Let’s talk about everything you need to know before you consider your tummy tuck.
Are tummy tucks worth the money?
According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the average cost of a tummy tuck starts at just over $6,000. This, however, does not take into account surgeons fees, post-surgical garments and facility fees. That being said, patients who undergo the tummy tuck say they would do it all over again in a heartbeat to get their results. The tummy tuck leaves our patients feeling more confident than ever before with a body they never thought they’d be able to see again.
What is the healing time for a tummy tuck surgery?
At Pollack Plastic Surgery, you can expect about half as much recovery time after your tummy tuck than if you were to go elsewhere in the San Diego area. This is because Dr. Pollack uses a special technique called the Tummy Tuck 2.0 in which uses cutting-edge advances to cut down on your discomfort both during and following your procedure. Most patients make an initial recovery in just seven to 10 days and a full recovery after just six weeks.
Can a tummy tuck correct stretch marks?
The answer to this question really depends on where your stretch marks lie. Because a traditional tummy tuck only removes skin below the belly button, if your stretchmarks are solely located in this area, a tummy tuck may improve their overall appearance or get rid of them completely. However, if your stretch marks are above the belly button or around your hips and thighs, a tummy tuck will not be able to improve their appearance. Instead, we advise you to consider other methods of stretch mark removal such as one of our laser treatments.
Will a tummy tuck give me a flat stomach?
Yes, a tummy tuck will absolutely give you a flat stomach. During your tummy tuck process, a long and thin incision will be made from hip to hip just above your pubic area. Through this incision, Dr. Pollack will be able to not only get rid of unwanted fat through liposuction, but also tighten your abdominal muscles for a tightened core before pulling your skin tight against your new tummy and trimming away the excess skin. This results in a flat, tightened stomach that our patients love.
Does fat come back after a tummy tuck?
The answer to this question is more complicated than a simple yes or no. While no, the fat removed during liposuction will never be replaced with new fat cells, your remaining fat cells may swell up and take over the area fat was removed from in the event you gain weight following your tummy tuck. This means that you can still gain weight following your liposuction and tummy tuck procedure and have the appearance of new fat. We advise you only consider a tummy tuck if you have a healthy lifestyle, are able to maintain a stable weight, and have realistic expectations of your results.
